Central Beach & Riomar·New custom home
A Central Beach house of steel and glass doors, an indoor-outdoor quartzite shower, and a cabana guest house closing the courtyard.
This house began as a remodel. We were brought in to replace the contractor originally engaged for it, and once the existing structure was open, it was clear it could not carry the design that had been drawn for it. The project became a new build.
That decision came with a constraint. Materials for the remodel had already been ordered and were sitting on site. Working with Dingwall Architecture, we designed the new residence around what was already on hand rather than writing it off.
What came out of it is a house of thresholds. A quartzite slab primary shower opens to the outdoors through an accordion folding exterior door system from Nana Wall. A custom pivot door in steel and glass fronts the house, and steel and glass interior doors carry that language through the plan. A cabana guest house closes the courtyard.
Inside there is a custom steel fireplace, a stone kitchen sink integrated into its counter, a cast vanity in the guest bath, and in the primary bath a floating vanity in custom stained zebra wood, built in our own cabinet shop. Lighting throughout is automated.
